Serving One Another
Westminster Presbyterian Church is a family of believers who come together for worship and nurture. We have a deep concern for the quality of life in the church community and a congregation that seeks to care for each other. This is lead by the Nurturing Ministry Team, which helps the congregation become a nurturing, caring, renewing community. Inspired by the example of Christ, WPC has both organized groups and informal ways that we seek to provide loving care. Some very special groups contribute to the Nurturing Ministry and are described below:
Care Teams
Congregational Care Teams provide a way for our congregation to respond to needs of individuals and families in our church family. These needs may result from disability, prolonged illness, the aging process, or other situations. Our help includes: minor auto or home repair, cleaning, cooking, errands, shopping, visitation, gardening, visits, transportation, writing notes, yard work, repair referrals.
If you are interested in being a Care Teams volunteer or need assistance, please call the church office.
Neighborhood Groups
These groups are a way to divide the congregation into smaller groups of people who live in close proximity to each other. These smaller groups provide an intimate setting to facilitate nurturing in times of happiness, sadness, illness, death, or other times when a sympathetic ear of a shoulder to lean on is needed. These groups are also a source of fellowship. The church also welcomes visitors to our congregation through these groups. Our neighborhood groups deliver cookies to visitors and disseminate information to members residing in their neighborhoods.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
The Prayer Shawl Ministry is made up of a group of volunteers who knit or crochet. They make beautiful shawls. As each shawl is being stitched, a prayer is said for those that need healing, peace, comfort, love or strength. The finished shawl is called a prayer shawl, and it becomes a tangible evidence of prayer. It is then given to those in our congregation who are in need of nurturing.
Anyone is welcome to join this group including teenagers and children. You do not need to know how to knit or crochet as members of this group will teach you in the monthly meetings.
Stephen Ministry
Stephen Ministry is a system of training and organizing laypersons for a caring ministry both in our congregation and community. Stephen Ministers reach out to those who are hurting and in need of support and encouragement during difficult circumstances such as: grief, divorce, unemployment, illness and other stressors.
Stephen Ministry enables our entire congregation to grow as a warm loving, nurturing community where people are cherished and cared for in a confidential relationship.
"For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 8: 38-39).
