Sunday School for All Ages
The goal of the Westminster Christian Education program is to provide foundations in biblical knowledge, Christian tradition, Presbyterian doctrine, and church history. The program also provides opportunities for personal growth, community service, and ways for individuals to articulate their own faith journeys.
The curriculum plan tries to meet everyone's needs, and we have specific, individualized Christian Education offerings for all ages.
- Infant Nursery (newborn through age 4)
- Children's Sunday School
- Children's Worship
- Youth Sunday School

Infant and Toddler Nursery
Our rapidly expanding nurseries and Children's Worship programs are a vital ministry of this church. For families visiting or new to our congregation, it is often the first and most important introduction to Westminster. The nursery (for newborn through 4 years) is available Sunday mornings, 8:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. (back to top)
Children's Sunday School (age 2 ~ 5th grade)
Our goal in Christian Education for the children at Westminster Presbyterian Church is to provide an atmosphere in which they are given the opportunity to experience the stories of our faith, and to grow in their relationship with God. Our Sunday School curriculum is in a rotation-model format; this means that children will learn the same story in many different learning styles.
Preschool Sunday School: (age 2 (potty-trained), 3, and 4 year olds) will rotate within their own classroom with the same teacher for the entire year. Their class is a mini rotation format in one room to help them feel comfortable with their surroundings. They will enjoy playtime, Bible story time, craft or coloring sheet to reinforce the story, singalong, and prayer time. This is where the foundation for experiencing God's love in "their" church begins. They will develop a sense of being a part of God's world and how they can help others, learn simple stories from the Bible, learn that Jesus loves all of us, and will experience belonging to, and being an important part of a church family.
Elementary Sunday School: (kindergarten through fourth grade) will rotate each week to a different classroom along with a "Shepherd" who will be with them the entire year. The rotations are Art, Drama/Cooking/Games, Worship, and Community and World Service/Movies. This format helps to reinforce the Bible story or lesson in many different learning styles.
Fifth Grade Sunday School: will have a class of their own with one teacher that will lead them the entire year. They will be using a mini survey course of the Bible, along with current topic discussions, some fun, and games. This curriculum and format will help prepare them for the Middle School Sunday School program and Confirmation. (back to top)
Youth Sunday School
The Middle School (6th and 7th graders) Sunday School meets during the normal Sunday School time (10:00 a.m.) in the Middle School Room. Eighth graders will participate in our Confirmation class.
The High School (9th through 12th graders) Sunday School also meets during the normal Sunday School hour (10:00 a.m.) in the Senior High Room.
Please call 584-3957 if you would like more information about these classes.
In addition to the morning Sunday School classes, there are Sunday youth fellowship groups: Youth Club (2nd-5th grade) and the Sunday Youth at Westminster, (two groups, WAMS for Middle School Youth and SHOW for High School Youth). (back to top)
Adult Sunday School
You don't have to attend a class from the beginning. You are always welcome, and most of the classes are structured so that if you miss one, it doesn't mean you are out of the loop. Please join us!
The mission of the Adult Christian Education program at Westminster Presbyterian Church is to provide an opportunity to expand our knowledge of the Bible, to address issues of faith, to address issues that present themselves within our denomination, to broaden our knowledge of other religions in order to attain a better understanding and acceptance of them, to address personal/family/community concerns, and to have an open forum to review and discuss current topics within our society. All areas of study are explored within the Christian perspective and within the Christian doctrine as it relates to the Presbyterian Church. Each person has a valuable opinion and the right to express that opinion; thus, each of us has an obligation to listen with an open mind and heart, holding each individual in highest esteem regardless of our differences.
Leadership for the sessions may come from volunteers from within the community or the congregation, church personnel, or, in some cases, hired speakers. The learning format depends on the subject matter and can be in the form of book studies, video studies, lectures or a combination of all three.
During Advent and Lent there are no "topics" classes and instead a special series. (back to top)
Vacation Bible School
We have had several requests from families with children to have our Vacation Bible School in the morning, so we will be alternating every other year with the all-inclusive Vacation Church School that has been so well attended by all ages.
Other Classes and Lecture Series
Wednesday Evening Theology Class
COME JOIN OUR COMPANIONS IN CHRIST WOMEN'S SPIRITUALITY GROUP that meets every Wednesday night from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the Prayer Room. We hope you will join our weekly gathering as we progress together on our spiritual journeys.
Thursday Fellowship
All early-risers are invited to attend this 7:00 a.m. gathering in the McKinnon Room on the second and fourth Thursday mornings of each month. There is no age or gender requirement, and we invite anyone interested to attend. We have a light breakfast before the program (we take turns bringing the food, which may be as simple as sweet rolls or as elaborate as a breakfast casserole), and we try to hold the meeting to an hour for those who need to go to work.
